Jim Laird, Michelle Laird and Jose Espinosa’s Too Flash For You, winner of the $85,320 New Mexico Horsemen’s Breeders Association Stakes (RG2), meets David and Ross Hinkins’ sharp Jess Sandy Jr in the $45,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Stakes (RG2) for 3-year-old New Mexico-breds on Sunday at SunRay Park.
Too Flash For You (First Moonflash-Rare Pie by Rare Form) comes off the most important win of his career when he scored a 19-1 upset win in the New Mexico Horsemen’s Breeders Association Stakes. The Wes Giles-trained gelding qualified for four futurities last year and has finished in the top-two runners in half of his 10 starts.
Jess Sandy Jr (Jesse James Jr-Dashin Sandy by Streakin Dash) started the year with a conditioned allowance win and then an optional-claiming victory at Sunland Park. The Emilio Cadena III-trained colt then made a class jump when he moved to SunRay Park and finished second by a neck in the $35,000 Animas Stakes as the favorite.
J and M Racing and Farm’s Kaydns Krusader (Sixes Royal-Total Miracle by Dean Miracle) tries to regain the form he showed last summer at Ruidoso Downs. The gelding was second to champion and All American Futurity (G1) winner Handsome Jack Flash in the $409,434 Zia Futurity (RG1) and was third by a neck in the $357,000 Mountain Top Futurity. Most recently he finished eighth in the New Mexico HBA Stakes behind Too Flash For You.
