Omar Mireles’ homebred Jetin Cosmos is well positioned as the fastest qualifier to the $15,000-added Gillespie County Fair Futurity at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds on Sunday afternoon.
Jetin Cosmos (Cosmograph-Jetin Chablis by Easy Winning Jet) raced to her second win from four starts when she won the sixth of seven trials by one length at 4-1 odds. The Angel Sanchez-trained filly posted her other win when she won her Sam Houston Futurity (G2) trial in her debut before having a very troubled trip and being taken up in the Sam Houston Futurity.
The Terrazas Family’s homebred Red Corona Warrior (Coronas Fast Dash-Prairie War Princess by Dashin Is Easy) was second to Jetin Cosmos with the second fastest time of :17.945. The Carlos Botello-trained gelding could be heavily backed in the finals with close thirds in the $68,490 John Deere Sam Houston Juvenile Challenge and the $103,270 TQHA Sires’ Cup Futurity (RG2).
Carlos Castro’s third fastest qualifier Jess Gone Streakin (Gone To The Mountain-Streak For Us Jessup by Mr Jess Perry) also came out of the trial with a :17.949 time. The Vicente De Los Santos-trained gelding won his maiden three starts ago and came back to finish second by a neck in the $44,450 TQHA Futurity over the Gillespie track.
