Five horses hit the wire in a blanket finish in Saturday’s $75,000 Refrigerator Handicap (G1) at Lone Star Park, and Joker On Jack prevailed by a head to earn his first graded stakes win. Owned by Wade and Jarrett Helton and trained by Alfredo Gomez, the 3-year-old gelding by PYC Paint Your Wagon raced 440 yards over a muddy track in :21.310 with Raul Gutierrez in the irons.

Bred in Oklahoma by Corner K Quarter Horses LLC, Joker On Jack enjoyed a solid 2-year-old campaign with victories in the Oklahoma Horsemen’s Association Mystery Futurity at Will Rogers Downs and the Hialeah Laddie Futurity in Florida. As a 3-year-old, he ran third behind Wicked Courage in the Rainbow Derby (G1) and then finished second in an All American Derby (G1) trial but did not qualify. The Refrigerator marked his first start against older horses and improved his bankroll to $314,678.

Antonio Carrizales’ Jess Fly With Me, a stakes winner at Retama Park earlier in the year, finished a game second with Luis Vivanco riding for trainer Erika Huitron. Malinche Cattle Co. Inc.'s Charal Kid, a 13-time stakes winner making his 50th career start and also trained by Huitron, took third. Grade 1 winner and favorite Feature Mr Bojangles crossed the wire fourth, a head in front of Lota PYC.
