Kool Million in Hot Dillingham

Los Al Dillingham Handicap features tough field.

May 3, 2012

The $25,000 Dillingham Handicap on Saturday night at Los Alamitos may have attracted only six horses, however the quality runs deep with Los Alamitos Maiden Stakes winner Kool Million, El Primero Del Ano Derby (G2) third-place finisher Willie Dasher and James Smith Handicap winner BF Farm Girl.

Dr. Ed Allred’s homebred Kool Million (Bono Jazz-Kool As Ever by Chicks Beduino) has only three starts – all since December 30 – and has responded with two wins and a second-place finish in his Maiden Stakes trial. The Jose Antonio Flores-trained gelding showed his grit when he fought to the Maiden Stakes win with a late surge.

Mimi Wells’ homebred Willie Dasher (Separatist-Im Willie Kool by Willie Wanta Dash) comes off his best effort when he was third in the $180,320 El Primero Del Ano Derby (G2) at nearly 30-1 odds. The Dan Francisco-trained gelding is on a streak of three-straight third-place finishes.

Donald and Peggy Boyle’s homebred BF Farm Girl (First Down Dash-Shirleys Strawfly by Strawfly Special) scored her valuable first stakes win in her most recent start with a three-quarter-length win as the 2-1 choice in the Jim Smith Handicap at 350 yards. The Paul Jones-trained half sister to champion Strawkins has four wins from seven outs.
