'Larry' Fastest to Red Cell

All About Larry headlines the Red Cell at Sunland.

March 27, 2012

Diane Heath’s All About Larry looks to build upon his recent success with what would be the most important win of his career when he starts in the $55,000 Red Cell Sunland Park Distance Challenge on Sunday afternoon at Sunland Park.

Trained by Tom Bartol, All About Larry (Heza Motor Scooter-Come Hell Or Hiwater by Shoot Yeah) is after his fourth-straight win. He started this hot streak with a 2 3/4-length romp in an 870-yard race on December 30 at Turf Paradise. That victory, followed by a January 20 romping win by 8 ¼ lengths in a 1,000-yard race, set him up in top shape for his Red Cell Sunland Park Distance Challenge trial. The 5-year-old gelding responded with a surge through the stretch to win by 3 1/2 lengths as the even-money favorite. His time of :45.054 was the fastest time from the two trials.

George and Judy Weldon’s homebred JW A Royal Flirt (GW A Royal Chick-Office Wench (TB) by Memo) was second at 16-1 odds in the trial with the second-fastest qualifying mark of :45.602. He was making his first start for trainer Blake Rust after being claimed back for $10,000 on January 28. The Weldons had lost JW A Royal Flirt for a $6,250 claim back on October 31, 2010.

The Jesus Carrete-owned and -trained Apollos First Down (Apollo (TB)-Ms Devine Diva by This Snow Is Royal) won the other trial by a half length with a charge through the stretch. His time of :45.702 was the third-fastest qualifying time. The 5-year-old gelding has past success at this stakes level with a win in the Special Hank Handicap at The Downs at Albuquerque and a close second in the Red Cell Turf Paradise Distance Challenge.
