Living Your Dreams Steps up in AZ Stakes

Gelding tries stakes at Turf Paradise.

Yuriana Ramirez’s Living Your Dreams raced for a $10,000 claiming tag two starts ago and now tries for a stakes win as the fastest qualifier to the $26,837 Desert Classic Derby on Sunday afternoon at Turf Paradise.

Living Your Dreams (Tac It Like A Man-She Ruleth by Separatist) has spent most of his 13-race career laboring in Los Alamitos’ claiming races and now could be favored in the Desert Classic Derby. After being claimed for $6,250 three starts ago and then finishing a close second for a $10,000 claiming tag at Los Alamitos, he moved to the Tracie Aker barn at Turf Paradise and responded with a 1 1/2-length win in the second of two Desert Classic Derby trials, with the fastest-qualifying time of :17.540.

Ricardo Biebrich’s Mackies Wagon (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Deer Mackie (TB) by In Excess (IRE)) is interesting because he made his career debut in the trials and won the first trial with the second-fastest qualifying time. The Caesar Lopez-trained gelding won by 1 1/4 lengths, with a :17.610 time.

Lopez will also saddle third-fastest qualifier Miguel Reynoza’s Black Storm Regard (Chicks Regard-Miss Quick Houston by Mr Houston). The filly qualified for the AQRA Spring Derby in April and then was off until the Desert Classic Derby trials. She could move forward off her second-place trial effort behind Living Your Dreams with the third-fastest time of :17.760.
