September 12, 2013

The fall season at Lone Star Park begins on Saturday night with Jody Pops Zoomer looking for his first win in a year in a wide-open $20,000 Nevill Document Solutions Stakes for 3-year-old and older Texas-breds over 350 yards.

Gary and Randal Kurz’s Jody Pops Zoomer (Zoomin For Bux-Jody Pops Lil Sis by Jody O Toole) won his Dash For Cash Futurity trial a year ago and then returned to finish sixth in the Grade 1 finals. The gelding from the Toby Keeton barn is making his first start since finishing third in a Remington Park optional-claiming race back in June.

I. Soliz Jr.’s Sparrow Contender (Contend-Taint Special by Streakin Six) has won six of 19 starts with wins this year in the $35,000 TQHA 250 Stakes, the Swift Stakes and the Harrah’s Dash. The 4-year-old also raced to third-place finishes in the Streakin La Jolla Stakes and the Delta Dash.

Joe Allen’s JA Jess Perfect (Mr Jess Perry-JA Curiosity by Dash For Cash) scored his only win from three tries this year when he won the Live Oak Handicap over state-breds at Retama Park in his latest effort. The Judd Kearl-trainee won by three quarters of a length with a :17.54 time for the 350 yards.
