Lorta Pair Dangerous in Desert Classic

Doinit For You, Sea Panther Run threaten in Desert Classic Derby.

October 18, 2012

The Omar Lorta-trained pair of Doinit For You and Sea Panther Run, two of the top-three qualifiers, should be a dangerous duo in the $40,000 Desert Classic Derby (R) on Sunday afternoon at Turf Paradise.

Dianna Melendez’s Doinit For You (Dashair-Donedoinit by Dashing Val) impressively raced to her second win from four starts when she set the fastest qualifying time. She pulled away to win the second of two trials by 2 1/4 lengths, with the top time of :17.834.

Unstarted at 2, Doinit For You won her maiden in her second start when she won a Turf Paradise maiden race by 2 lengths back in March.

Xavier Cardenas’ Sea Panther Run (Panther Mountain-Yacht Sea by Mr Jess Perry) was second in the other trial, with the third-fastest time of :18.046. The gelding is looking for his first win since back-to-back victories at Rillito Park early this year.

Defeating Sea Panther Run and racing to the second-fastest qualifying time was Jaime Hidalgo’s Three Wagons (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Royal Blue Heart by Royal Quick Dash). The Tracie Aker-trained gelding won by a half length in :17.982.

Three Wagons was making his first start in more than a year. In his previous start, he was claimed for $5,000 at Los Alamitos.
