The first- and third-place finishers in the $217,545 Delta Downs Louisiana-bred Derby (RG3) returns in the $60,000 Treme Stakes and the sharp Patriots Toast runs in the $60,000 Audubon Stakes at Fair Grounds on Saturday.
The Treme is for Louisiana-bred 3-year-olds while the Audubon is run for 3-year-old and older Louisiana-breds. Each race is at 350 yards.
Oscar Rohne’s Kool Design (First N Kool-Mitey Good Design by Mitey Easy Dash) ran the race of his life in the Delta Downs Derby when he scored at 40-1 odds. He prevailed by a nose in his first stakes appearance for trainer Kenny Roberts.
Ana Alvidrez’s Scooter Prize (First Prize Perry-Royal Baby Scooter by A Royale High) was third in the Delta Derby and is in excellent form for trainer Trejo Martin. Three starts ago, she won the $50,000 Vinton Stakes (RG3) by a half length.
Also owned by Alvidrez and trained by Martin, Patriots Toast (Game Patriot-Wakeup To Toast by Toast To Dash) has seconds in stakes races in her latest two efforts. She was beaten by a neck in the $35,000 Party Girl Stakes back in February at Louisiana Downs and returned in July at Delta Downs to finish second by one-half length in the $60,000 Flashy Hemp Stakes.
Donald Sargent’s MCM Fast Dashin Blue (Jess Louisiana Blue-Fast Dash N Deb by Heza Fast Dash) was claimed by Roberts for $7,500 on May 30 and then returned in July to defeat Patriots Toast in the Flashy Hemp for her first stakes win.
