Louisiana Freshman Ready to Star

Freshman line up for Laddie and Lassie at Delta.

May 23, 2012

Ms Jingles in the $252,317 Louisiana Breeders Lassie Futurity (RG2) and a pair of fastest qualifiers in the $225,337 Louisiana Breeders Laddie Futurity (RG2) provide for a futurity doubleheader featuring state-breds at Delta Downs on Saturday.

The Double A Partnership’s Ms Jingles (Bigtime Favorite-Some Quick Dasher by Some Dasher) was a close third in the Mardi Gras Futurity (RG2) as part of the favored entry, beaten by only a head. Trainer Frank Cavazos gave her a two-month breather and she responded with a dominating 1 1/2-length win in her Lassie Futurity trial. Her time of :16.710 for 330 yards topped the 11 trials.

Eric Johnson’s Streakin Ellen (Game Patriot-Streakin Amber by Streakin La Jolla) made a promising career debut for trainer Heath Taylor when she prevailed by a nose in her Lassie Futurity trial. Her time of :16.802 was the second-fastest qualifying mark.

In the Laddie Futurity, Gerald Libersat’s Perrys Runaway (Sir Runaway Dash-Ms Perrys Money by Mr Jess Perry) is on a positive trend for trainer Kevin Broussard. The gelding had gate problems in his debut and finished fifth. He then made a big step forward to take his maiden by 3 lengths at Louisiana Downs. He then successfully made another class jump when he opened up a clear lead and won the third Laddie Futurity trial by 1 ½ lengths. His time of :16.498 for 330 yards was the co-fastest mark from 10 trials.

Charles Forbes and Tommy Hays’ Open Me A Corona (Coronas Leaving You-In The Open by Mr Eye Opener) could have a big upside after making his career debut in the eighth Laddie Futurity trial. The Bobby Martinez-trained colt won by 1 3/4 lengths while matching the top-qualifying time of :16.498.
