With a powerful finish on the outside, Ana Alvidrez’s Mr T Perry captured Saturday’s $40,000 Billy Montgomery Stakes (RG3) for 3-year-old state-breds at Louisiana Downs. J.R. Ramirez rode for trainer Miguel Rodriguez and stopped the timer at :17.777 for 350 yards as the 3-1 second choice.

Bred by Chad Hart out of the Salt Lake (TB) mare T Storm (TB), Mr T Perry picked up his first stakes victory and fourth overall win in seven trips to the post. Mr T Perry broke his maiden last March at Louisiana Downs and later picked up claiming and allowance wins at Evangeline Downs. The gelding has now banked $49,996.

Mr T Perry also became the first stakes winner for his sire, First Prize Perry. The Mr Jess Perry stallion, who finished second in the 2006 Texas Classic Futurity (G1), stands at Chad Hart’s Hart Farms in Kaplan, Louisiana.

Yardira Alvarado’s Intriguing Jess Blue, a gelding by Jess Louisiana Blue, finished second by a neck. Los Primitos’ Country Talker closed well to finish another neck back in third. Favored Mr Sonic Boom faded to sixth.

Also on the card, Sunset Racing Stable’s Eyeontheline scored a front-running victory in the $20,000 Marathon Stakes. The gelding by Eye Yin You covered 870 yards in :46.229 with Danny Lavergne aboard for conditioner Kenneth Roberts Sr. This marked the stakes debut for Eyeontheline, who picked up his fifth win in 10 outings and pushed his bankroll to $37,125. The winner was bred in Texas by William Reeder.
