Noconi Higheaserjet Highweight

Noconi returns to the races on Sunday.

June 28, 2012

R.D. Hubbard and J Bar 7 Ranch’s champion Noconi equals his career high impost of 129 pounds when he tries for his third win in the $30,000 Higheasterjet Handicap (G3) on Sunday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs.

First post time is 1 p.m. with the 350-yard Higheasterjet running as the final race on the 10-race card. There is always free parking and free general admission at Ruidoso Downs.

Noconi has earned $1,335,959 during his 33-race career with 12 stakes wins, including the 2009 and 2011 runnings of the Higheasterjet. A year ago, the gelding won the Higheasterjet while packing 126 pounds and he then came through in the All American Gold Cup (G2) over 440 yards while toting 129 pounds.

This year, the 7-year-old Noconi is still in peak form. He made a trip to Los Alamitos for the Los Alamitos Winter Championship (G1) and raced to a third-place finish after being bumped at the start. He returned to New Mexico to win the $50,000 La Plata Stakes (G3) on May 12 in his only start at SunRay Park. Trainer Paul Jones will have Esgar Ramirez on Noconi when they start from the sixth post position.

Allen Garcia Ruiz’s No Ordinary Love also comes off a stakes win at SunRay Park. The Miguel Castillo-trained colt won the $50,000 Animas Stakes after taking a $32,000 allowance race at Sunland Park. Macario Rodriguez rides No Ordinary Love from the fifth post position.

Rodney Christiansen’s homebred Sir Seth looks to regain the form he had last fall when he won the $150,000 Zia Park Championship (G1). The winner of nine of 22 starts was eighth in the $110,000 Bank of America Sunland Championship Challenge (G2) in his latest effort. L. Salvador Martinez rides Sir Seth for trainer John Stinebaugh with the seventh post position.

Double Chiseled won the James Isaac Hobbs Stakes (G2) and the Lovington Stakes (G2) in successive starts before finishing a close third behind Sir Seth in the Zia Park Championship. The 6-year-old gelding drew the ninth post position and Jaime Parga Leos will be aboard.
