Ed Allred’s homebred Once Over looks for his third-straight stakes win when he leads seven older horses over 350 yards in the $25,000 Kaweah Bar Handicap (G3) on Saturday night at Los Alamitos.

Once Over (Walk Thru Fire-Look Her Over by Check Him Out) started his current hot streak in stunning style when he won the $16,000 Pete Wood Overnight Handicap by an easy 1 1/4 lengths in :17.385 for the 350 yards back in February. He then fought for his most recent victory when he prevailed by a nose as the 11-10 favorite in the $25,000 Katella Handicap for trainer Scott Willoughby.

The Scott Willoughby-trained Once Over was second in the 2013 $100,000 Spencer Childers California Breeders Championship (RG1) last summer at Los Alamitos.

Rosa Barbosa’s Remembering Spence (TR Dasher-Sables Bono by Bono Jazz), who was also bred by Allred, has the past class and is looking for his first win since taking his Los Alamitos Super Derby trial back in November. The Juan Aleman-trained gelding won the 2013 $231,650 Los Alamitos Winter Derby (G1) and the $25,000 Sgt Pepper Feature Handicap.

Lila Kessinger’s Separate Interest (Separatist-A Delightful Legacy by First Down Dash) gave Once Over a serious challenge in the Katella Handicap when he came up a nose short at nearly 10-1 odds. The Mike Casselman-trainee showed he fits at this level when took the $25,000 Town Policy Handicap by a neck back in November.
