October 19, 2012

San Gregorio Racing Stables and Jose and Gustavo De La Torre’s One Dashing Eagle, the runaway winner of both the Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1) and All American Futurity (G1), will headline the 88-horse lineup that will compete in a full night of trials to the $1,118,000 Golden State Million Futurity (G1) on Sunday at Los Alamitos.

The horses with the 10 fastest times in the 400-yard trials will advance to the Golden State Million final on Sunday, November 4. The winner of the Golden State Million will earn $450,660.

There will be 11 Golden State Million trials starting at 5:38 p.m. (Pacific). One Dashing Eagle will be in action in the seventh trial of the night as he begins his quest of winning his third million-dollar futurity in 2012. The son of One Famous Eagle will enter the trials with four wins from five starts and earnings of $1,626,205. His Ed Burke victory was an easy 1 ¼-length romp, while his All American win was a three-quarter-length decision. Finding words to describe the nation’s leading money winner comes easy for trainer Jose De La Torre.

“He is magical,” De La Torre said. “He’s an amazing animal. I get goose bumps thinking about One Dashing Eagle. People have been asking me about him on a daily basis. They ask, ‘When is the big boy racing? How is he doing?’ To know that you are involved with a horse like One Dashing Eagle is a humbling experience. We’ve been blessed to be involved with a horse like One Dashing Eagle. I know that there’s a very good chance that we’ll never have another one like him. Horses like him simply don’t come along often. I can’t say enough about the horse and his ability.”

To be ridden by Ramon Sanchez, One Dashing Eagle will face a solid field that includes Governor’s Cup Futurity (RG2) finalists Don Loncho and Swindler. The trials will also feature Governor’s Cup winner Secretly Hot, who’ll face Ed Burke Memorial Juvenile (R) third-place finisher Gold Flames On Fire in the 11th and final trial.

Trainer Joe Bassett will saddle a tremendous group of runners in the trials. His runners include Governor’s Cup runner-up Beg Stel Or Borrow in the first trial, jaw-dropping maiden winner Amore La Blue in the second, Ed Burke Million finalist Jess Being Valiant in the third and John Deere Los Alamitos Juvenile Challenge winner Tell Of The Past in the ninth race. Juan Aleman will also saddle a strong group that includes Ed Burke Million finalists Watch Linda Ballet and Starlite Delight and Rainbow Futurity (G1) finalist Scatmandu.

AQHA Champion trainer Paul Jones will send out the likes of Bullet In The Gun, Joy Roses Eagle SA, Henoshersecret and High School and the highly regarded Just A Fairytale.
