Press ReleaseJune 14, 2014
Delta Downs hosted seven qualifying trials for this year’s $278,125 Firecracker Futurity (G2) on Friday night under a full moon. When the dust had settled it was Marina Nino’s Quic Carter who lived up to his name as he recorded the quickest of the 350-yard times, :17.392. That time equaled a speed index of 93.
Quic Carter was ridden to victory by jockey Eleazar Hernandez and he is trained by Juan Saucedo. His effort on Friday night marked the second win of his career from four trips to the starting gate. His last two outs have come at Delta Downs after finishing second in a trail for the Sam Houston Futurity and running third in the $564,000 final behind the undefeated superstar Kiss My Hocks.
Each of Friday’s trials at Delta Downs were worth $7,500 in total purse money. Quic Carter earned $4,500 for his victory, which raised his career bankroll up to $74,335.
Listed below is the complete list of 10 finalists for the Firecracker Futurity, which will take place on Independence Day, Friday, July 4.
