Trainer Kenny Roberts has two of the choices in the $55,000 Delta 550 Championship for Louisiana-breds – Political Option and Rocky Mountain Fly – on Friday night at Delta Downs.

Carlos Lozano’s Political Option (Jess Louisiana Blue-In His Dreams by Apollo (TB)) got off to a sharp start this year with a win in the Mr Jess Perry Stakes (RG3) at Louisiana Downs. He battled with Haystretcher and squeezed out the nose win in :17.495 for 350 yards. He didn’t have the opportunity to show his class when he made his next start in the Juan Alleman Stakes (RG3). Sent off as the 17-10 favorite, he ran into traffic problems and could only manage a sixth-place finish.

Political Option has earned $211,880 with 15 on-the-board efforts from 19 starts.

Douglas Traylor’s Rocky Mountain Fly (Panther Mountain-Dealafly by Strawfly Special) returns from a five-month layoff after winning his two starts before his rest. The gelding won a conditioned Evangeline Downs allowance race and then made a strong late run to catch Political Option and win the Louisiana Champions Day Derby (RG3) by a head. That was his fourth win from his six previous starts.

Kris Locklear’s veteran Worlds On High (Game Patriot-Sissyisonahigh by On A High) makes his 41st career start and still has his winning form. Two starts ago, the Vann Haywood-trained gelding stepped up at nearly 10-1 odds to win the Magnolia Stakes by a head. He has made his four latest starts at 870 yards and has one second-place finish, in a $20,000 optional-claiming race, from two 550-yard starts.
