Ruthardt-Wood Quarter Horses’ Runaway For Corona won his maiden in his futurity trial, and that was good enough to become the fastest qualifier to the $100,000 Iowa Double Gold Futurity (RG3) on Saturday night at Prairie Meadows.

The Iowa Double Gold program is a race program for participating stallions.

Runaway For Corona (Midnight Corona-Runaway Valentine by Runaway Winner) won his maiden in his fourth start for trainer Kasey Willis when he took his trial by a head at nearly 10-1 odds. He was timed in :17.574 for the quickest mark from three trials.

The second- and third-fastest qualifiers came out of the same trial.

Dalton Gold’s second-fastest qualifier High Handed Attitude (Jonathan Perry-Unlatch My Attitude by Willie Wicked) won his maiden at first asking at Remington Park and then, after a very troubled trip, finished second in his Iowa Double Gold trial in :17.602 for trainer Wayne Garner.

Jo Rice’s homebred Bradys Regard (Chicks Regard-Southard Style Lady by Strawfly Special) was the 19-10 favorite in the trial after an impressive maiden win in March at Remington Park, however he settled for third by a half length. His time was :17.670. He won his maiden at Remington Park for trainer Stacey Capps when he got up to score by a half length.
