Oscar Canales Ramirez and Isidro Flores’ Separatist Firstdown shoots for his third futurity win when he tops the field in the $200,500 Evangeline Downs Futurity on Saturday night at the Louisiana track.

Separatist Firstdown (Separatist-Shesa Firstdown Jess by First Down Dash) stands out after winning the $191,560 Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity (G3) and the $133,715 Gillespie Co. Fair Futurity (G3), and setting a new track record while establishing the fastest qualifying time to the Evangeline Downs Futurity.

Trained by Isidro Flores, Separatist Firstdown blew away his competition in his trial, which was his ninth start of the year. He drew out to win by 2 lengths. His time of :19.373 was easily the top qualifying mark and erased the track record of :19.411 set by JLS Mr Bigtime in 2010.

Separatist Firstdown showed his talent early in the year when he won the Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity by three quarters of a length back in March. After a throw-out, off-the-board race in the Firecracker Futurity, he took the Gillespie Co. Fair Futurity by an impressive 1 3/4 lengths as the 3-2 choice. He was then fourth in the $408,915 Dash For Cash Futurity (G1), his start before the Evangeline Downs Futurity trials.

Cynthia Allen’s Secrets Fly (No Secrets Here-Once Upon A Fly by Strawfly Special) could be dangerous after winning seven of 10 starts, including the $74,251 Old South Futurity and the $180,220 Indiana Stallion Service Auction Futurity (R). The Vann Haywood-trained gelding came through with a neck win in his trial. He posted the eighth-fastest qualifying time of :19.666.

Gerardo Luna’s homebred Mr Runaway (Ocean Runaway-Miss Kips Streakin by Streakin Sixes) has been on the board in seven of eight starts and was third in the Dash For Cash Futurity in his only stakes appearance. The Jorge Lopez-trained colt raced to a three-quarter-length win in his trial, with the third-fastest qualifying time of :19.532. His other win this year came in his All American Futurity trial by one-half length.
