Abigail Kawananakoa’s Shes Prime Time comes off a second-place finish in the 550-yard Paul Ford Handicap when she tries for her first stakes win in the $20,000 Barbra B Handicap over that same distance on Sunday night at Los Alamitos.
Shes Prime Time (Hawkinson-Sweet Beduino by Beduino (TB)) held the lead for most of the Paul Ford at 5-2 odds, but was not being able of hold off the long-striding Mister Michael. The Lin Melton-trained mare qualified for the Governor’s Cup Derby (RG2) last summer at Los Alamitos.
Gianni Samaja’s Impassion Queen (Snowbound (TB)- Queen of Appeals by First Down Dash) moved up from the claiming ranks to finish third in the Paul Ford. The Paul Jones-trained mare won at the $6,250 claiming level back in October.
Felix Gonzalez’s Frequentflyer (Bono Jazz-Flyagra by Bobby Beduino) was the odds-on favorite in the Paul Ford and finished fourth after breaking through the gate before the race. He earned the favoritism after winning back-to-back $20,000-claiming races last fall over 330 yards.
Jose and Gustavo De La Torre’s Snow Buddy (Snowbound (TB)-Female First by First Down Express) came off a yearlong layoff to win a 350-yard allowance race on December 20 by an expanding 1 3/4 lengths. Before his layoff, he qualified for the 870-yard Gold Rush Derby.
