Slew By You Takes Shue Fly

Dash Ta Fame filly shows continued improvement in first stakes win.

January 5, 2013

It took Slew By You a little while to figure out how to be a racehorse as she only hit the board once in her first five starts, but the Dash Ta Fame filly has now won three consecutive starts after capturing Saturday’s $252,796 Shue Fly Stakes (RG2) for 3-year-old New Mexico-breds at Sunland Park. The brown filly got up to win by a nose at odds of 9-1 with Ramon Sanchez aboard for trainer Juan Gonzalez and owner Valle Guadiana Corporation. Slew By You dashed 400 yards in :19.345.

Bred by MJ Farms, Slew By You did not find much success on the track until breaking her maiden in November at Zia Park. She followed that up with a one-length victory in her Shue Fly trial with the fourth-fastest qualifying time. Her record now stands at 8-3-1-0 with earnings of $145,940.

Slew By You is out of the Slewacide (TB) mare Slew a Po (TB), who has produced nine winners from 12 starters and now has two stakes winners. All but one of her starters are by Dash Ta Fame. Slew By You became the 89th stakes winner sired by the late Dash Ta Fame, who recently surpassed $18 million in progeny earnings.

Ramon Ochoa’s Taleas Liberty, a daughter of Jesse James Jr sent off as the longest shot in the field at odds of 42-1, held on for second after having the lead early in the race. Fastest qualifier An Absolut Diamond closed to take third for owners Sandy Farris, Marc Jungers and Lisa McMinn.
