Trainer John Stinebaugh had a big day at Sunland Park on Friday afternoon as he sent out two trial winners and four qualifiers in the ten trials for the $284,130 West Texas Futurity (G1). The trials were held over a fast track with a strong tailwind throughout the card. The final is set to be run April 8 at the New Mexico track.

The Stinebaugh-trained Dynasty Edition, a daughter of FDD Dynasty making her first career start, won the ninth heat by a half-length under Roberto Valero and posted the fastest qualifying time of :14.877 for 300 yards. The filly runs Dutch Masters III and was bred in Missouri by William O. Dale out of the stakes-winning First Place Dash mare Annual Edition.

Second-place finisher Ann Delovely, also trained by Stinebaugh, advanced to the final with the third-fastest time for owner Barbara Chase. The Furyofthewind filly was co-bred by Dale and Jim Streelman in Missouri.

Stinebaugh saddled the winner of the final trial with Nogal Racing LP’s homebred Gi Genes, who did not advance to the final, but the trainer did complete his quartet of qualifiers with Rose Webb’s homebred WR Golden Eagle (a One Famous Eagle filly who finished second in the second trial) and Dutch Masters III’s Dream Ride (a No Secrets Here filly who finished third in the fifth heat).
