Although there is currently no live racing in the state of Alabama, juveniles bred in that state got their chance to shine on Friday night in the $70,960 Alabama Futurity (R) at Delta Downs in Louisiana. The race came down to two horses as 7-2 second choice Struttin For Kenzie jumped out to an early lead from the rail and held off 9-10 favorite and fastest qualifier Pimps N Preachers by a nose. Ridden by David Alvarez for trainer Kenneth Weeks, the gelding by Struttin To Beduino covered 330 yards in :16.742.

Bred by Marlene Beauxis and owned by Donna and Kenneth Weeks, Struttin For Kenzie debuted in a maiden at Louisiana Downs in March and finished a troubled fifth. The gelding returned to the races on May 31 and won his Alabama Futurity trial in the third-fastest time. He has earned $39,575 for his two wins.

Paris Wixon's Pimps N Preachers, a gelding by Jet Black Patriot who won his first two career starts, finished well clear in second and boosted his bankroll to $23,164. Talmadge Cook’s homebred Dashin Thru The Oaks, a daughter of Oak Tree Special, took third.
