Sweet American Honey Wins Wyoming Bonus Challenge

Wyoming-bred gelding earns his first stakes victory.

Gerald Kaul's homebred Sweet American Honey was an impressive wire-to-wire winner by 1½ lengths over GG Streakin South in the $15,150 AQHA Bonus Challenge at Wyoming Downs on Sunday. Zonic Zoom finished a nose back in the third.

Ridden by Tyson Lusk for trainer Travis Lusk, Sweet American Honey completed the 870 yards in :45.351 seconds to earn a 103 speed index. It was the third career win for the 4-year-old Midnight Corona gelding, and the $7,878 winner’s share nearly doubled his earnings to $16,188.

Kaul bred Sweet American Honey in Wyoming from the Dashin Moon Shadow mare An Illusive Glance. Sweet American Honey entered the race off a second-place effort in for a $5,000 tag in a 550-yard race at Wyoming Downs on July 13. This was his first win four starts this year. He paid $7.20 to win.

Daniel Carrillo rode CG Streakin South to second-place for owner/breeder Goodrich Quarter Horses and trainer Gary Goodrich. The Streakin South Tong 6-year-old is out of DC Cash, by Harem Keeper. He earned $3,485 for the effort.

Third-place finisher Zonic Zoom is a multiple stakes-placed son of Shazoom racing for Movin On. Mike Taylor conditions with Roger Buening getting the riding assignment. George Temple bred Zonic Zoom in Oklahoma from the Vital Sign mare Miss Truckle Sign. He picked up $1,742.

Swashbucklers Booty and Caswell B completed the field. DM Matt Dillion was scratched.
