Gerald Libersat’s sharp Taylors Toastin Papa, who has been second or better in his races since January 2011, guns for his fourth-straight win and back-to-back stakes win in the $20,000 Streakin La Jolla Stakes on Saturday at Louisiana Downs.
Taylors Toastin Papa (Toast To Dash-Tacha La Jolla by Streakin La Jolla) won a pair of allowance races and then pulled off an 18-1 upset in the $50,000 Mr Jess Perry Stakes at Louisiana Downs. He rallied in the 350-yard stakes to get the neck win in :17.591.
Last year, Taylors Toastin Papa won three of five starts with a pair of second-place runs and he is two-for-two this year for trainer Kevin Broussard.
Oscar Alcantara’s Heza Gonna Dash (Heza Fast Dash-Iwanna Dash by Royal Quick Dash) was third in the Mr Jess Perry at 7-2 odds. The Barbara Alcantara-trained gelding won the Don Cravin Stakes in October and was disqualified from the win in the John Alleman Stakes back in April.
Malinche Cattle Company’s Charal Kid (Streakin La Jolla-The Special Feature by Strawfly Special) is always dangerous for trainer Eusevio Huitron. The 6-year-old gelding has earned $334,860 and comes off a close second-place finish in the Swift Stakes when he got caught at the wire in the 350-yard dash.
