Top two finishers in Los Alamitos' Autumn Handicap will rematch in Corona Chick Handicap.

November 15, 2012

The top-two finishers in the $35,000 Autumn Handicap – Sugarbear Sax Man and Secret Hero – are set for a rematch on Saturday night at Los Alamitos in the $25,000 Corona Chick Handicap for 2-year-olds over 400 yards.

Cesar Edgardo Muniz Gomez’s Sugarbear Sax Man (Tres Seis-Therestischemistry by Jazzing Hi) raced to a half-length win in the 350-yard Autumn Handicap on October 12 for his first win since winning his maiden in his career debut back in April. However, the gelding has posted three second-place finishes from his six starts. Sugarbear Sax Man developed quickly this year and qualified for the $268,200 Kindergarten (G2) in May.

Michael Isom’s homebred Secret Hero (Valiant Hero-With Real Intent by Raise A Secret) has stepped up since arriving at Los Alamitos this fall from the Northwest. He won his Wild West Futurity trial by a length and then recorded the second-place finish in the Autumn for trainer Justin Clark.

Also trained by Clark, IBA Dream Away (Ocean Runaway-IBA Dream by Chicks Beduino) moves up from the claiming ranks chasing her fourth-straight win. The filly owned by Cal West Racing, Thomas Peffer and Rasool Rastgoo won her maiden in August and then won for an $8,000-claiming price and then took a $20,000-claiming race in her most recent effort.
