Track Record in EVD Futurity

Separatist Firstdown earns third futurity victory of 2013.

After setting a 400-yard track record in the trials to the $200,550 EVD Futurity, Separatist Firstdown lowered the track record again at Evangeline Downs on Saturday night with a clocking of :19.292 to earn his third stakes win of the year. Ridden by Martin Rubalcava for trainer Isidro Flores, who co-owns the Texas-bred with Oscar Canales Ramirez, Separatist Firstdown scored by 1 ½ lengths as the 4-5 favorite.

Sired by Separatist and bred by Narciso Flores, Separatist Firstdown is now a winner of seven of 10 starts with earnings of $280,352. The colt has spaced out his stakes wins a victory in the Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity (G3) at Louisiana Downs in March and a win in the Gillespie County Fair Futurity (G3) in Texas in August. He also finished fourth in the October's Dash For Cash Futurity (G1) at Lone Star Park.

Guerras Racing Stables’ Im Carvin Waves, a Wave Carver gelding sent off at 29-1, closed to take second. Gerardo Medina Luna’s Mr Runaway, an Ocean Runaway who was third in the Dash For Cash, got up for the show position.
