May 25, 2013
Jesse Rodriguez Jr.’s Bradys March Madness scored a dominating two-length victory in Saturday’s $271,460 Louisiana Breeders’ Laddie Futurity (RG2) at Delta Downs and established a new track record at 330 yards. With Raul Ramirez Jr. aboard for trainer Miguel Rodriguez, the gelding by Jess Louisiana Blue stopped the timer at :16.337 to eclipse the mark of :16.354 set by Jessalittlecourage in 2011.
This marked the first win in four starts for Bradys March Madness, but the gelding showed plenty of potential in his first three outings. He debuted with a troubled third in a trial to the Mardi Grass Futurity (RG2) at Louisiana Downs and then took second in the final. As the odds-on favorite in his Laddie trial, Bradys March Madness closed fast after hopping at the start. His earnings now stand at $186,275. Triple Lynn Farms Inc. bred Bradys March Madness out of the JJ Shot Glass mare Kokopelli Hills.
Oscar Rohne’s Bonnies Jet, a gelding by Jet Black Patriot, rallied late to take second. TF Toast To Beduino, a colt by Struttin To Beduino owned by Ramon Martinez, took third.
Also on the card, favored The Lizzard King got up to score a nose victory in the $25,000 Develop a Plan Stakes (G3). The Brett Mennen homebred ridden by John Hamilton dashed 350 yards in :17.200.
The Lizzard King, a Texas-bred gelding by Valiant Hero, won a division of last year’s Evangeline Downs Derby and now has six wins in 13 starts with earnings of $127,224.
Malinche Cattle Co. Inc.’s homebred Charal Kid, an 18-time winner of nearly $500,000, finished a game second. Flirtingwithamiracle crossed the wire third.
