Trainer Miguel Rodriguez Rocks Mardi Gras Trials

Trainer saddles six winners on trial day.

Trainer Miguel Rodriguez saddled six of the 14 trials winners at Louisiana Downs Tuesday afternoon, qualifying four to the $256,604 final. The ten 2-year-old Louisiana-breds who recorded the fastest times at 300 yards, from 132 starters, will return on March 10th and vie for the $115,471 winner's purse.

The fastest time on Tuesday afternoon went to the Bigtime Favorite filly Ms Jingles, owned by Lauro Antonio Bazan of Mission, Texas and saddled by Frank Cavazos. Under jockey J.R. Ramirez the first time starter ran a :15.494, defeating Cajun On Star by half-a-length while earning a 98 speed index.

Ms Jingles was a $7,000 LQHBA Summer Sale Yearling purchase by Los Primitos, from her breeder Easy Acres Performance Horses. Bazan bought the brown filly on December 11, 2011. She is out of the Some Dasher mare Some Quick Dasher.

Cajun On Star was the first of four finalists saddled for trainer Miguel Rodriguez. The Real Easy Okey colt posted the second fastest time of :15.593. Also owned by Rodriguez, the brown colt out of Dashin Chiquita, by Dashin Chico was ridden by Raul Ramirez, Jr.

Rodriguez also owns and trains third fastest qualifier Cocky One, a Corona Cocktail gelding who won the 8th trial by a length-and-three-quarters in :15.611 seconds. The $1,700 LQHBA Sale yearling was purchased from his breeder Jerome Bellard. He is out of the Pie In The Sky mare Pie For One.

Rodriguez also saddled 14th trial runner up and sixth fastest qualifier Victoria Sweet Angel for Jesse Rodriguez, Jr.; and 12th trial winner and ninth qualifier Rdd Fishers Dash for Los Primitos.

First crop sire's Jet Black Patriot and Coronas Leaving You each got a qualifier into the finals. Jets Quick Fortune, by Jet Black Patriot, was an easy 1 ½ length trial winner in the second race to post the fourth fastest time of :15.633. In the ninth trial, Downtown Corona posted a ¾ length win for his sire Coronas Leaving You, setting the fifth fastest time of :15.655.

Bigtime Favorite also sired the aforementioned RDD Fishers Favorite to get two qualifiers, while Jess Louisiana Blue was the only other sire with two. He sired the aforementioned filly Victoria Sweet Angel and the 14th trial winner Jess Blue Boy Lena, who posted the seventh fastest time.
