The winners of the two trials to the $100,000 Born Runner Classic – Achieve The Speed and WH Design By Dash – meet in the 400-yard finals on Saturday at Indiana Grand Race Course.
The Stephanie Rickly-owned, -bred and -trained Achieve The Speed (Achievement-Salient Tsunami (TB) by Northern Afleet) raced to his first win in eight months when he won his trial at nearly 9-1 odds. The 3-year-old was timed in :20.186 for 400 yards to gain the quickest qualifying mark.
Achieve The Speed won the $29,000 Speed Sale Stakes at 330 yards back in August.
Julia Martin’s WH Design By Dash (Brimmstone-Fast Mans Dash by Heza Fast Man) won his trial by three quarters of a length with the second-fastest time of :20.311.
WH Design By Dash was second to Achieve The Speed in the Speed Sale Stakes. He also raced to a runner-up effort in the $129,556 Gordon Mobley Futurity (R) and a third in the $136,600 Miss Roxie Little Futurity (R).
