Trial Winners Top Mountain Top

Impressive winners return in Mountain Top Futurity.

Mitey Moon and Heza Wild Dragon, the top two qualifiers in their career debuts, return to make their second starts in the $356,980 Mountain Top Futurity for New Mexico-breds on Saturday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs.

Debra Laney’s homebred Mitey Moon (First Moonflash-Neons Miracle by Yawls Rabbit) drew out to a 2 1/2-length win in the first of 10 trials, and her time of :17.514 for the 350 yards held up throughout the trial-filled card.

The Kristopher Cordova-owned and -trained Heza Wild Dragon (Genuine Strawfly-Hidden Dragon by Dean Miracle) scored by three-quarters of a length in his trial. He was timed in :17.587.

Molly Morris’ Patrick James (Jesse James Jr-Sandys Fame by Dash Ta Fame) has an experience edge and is stakes tested. The gelding, a $37,000 Ruidoso Yearling Sale purchase, has two trial wins and a fifth-place finish in the New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2). The Blane Wood-trainee won his Mountain Top trial by three quarters of a length with the third-fastest time of :17.618.
