Delta Downs opened its 2013 American Quarter Horse season on Friday night with a pair of stakes races. The $50,000 Vinton Stakes (RG3) was won by T Boy C, and the $20,000 Delta Dash Stakes was taken by Logans Dash.

T Boy C’s victory came by just a head over Big Timer in the 400-yard Vinton for 3-year-old Louisiana-breds. Fance Oak Tree finished another three-quarters of a length behind the top pair. The winner was ridden to victory by jockey Raul Ramirez Jr. in a time of :19.702 for a 92 speed index over a fast track.

T Boy C won $30,000 for his effort and now has a record of five wins, two seconds and one third from 10 career starts. The property of Jose Guzman, who in his previous start won the Mardi Gras Derby (R) at Louisiana Downs, has now earned a total of $149,383.

Bred in Louisiana by Gerald Patin and Curtis Roy, T Boy C is a sorrel gelding by Sir Runaway Dash out of the Toast to Dash mare Toast to Mallard.

The Delta Dash stakes at 250 yards for older horses had a very close finish as Logans Dash beat The Lizzard King by just a nose with jockey Jesse Chavis in the saddle. Sparrow Contender finished another neck behind in third. Logans Dash went the distance in a rapid time of :12:942 for a 103 speed index.

Logans Dash, a 4-year-old daughter of Toast To Dash bred in Louisiana by Triple M Farms LLC, is owned by M and G Farms Inc. and trained by Lanny Keith.

Delta Downs wraps up its opening weekend of racing on Saturday with another 10-race program that begins at 6:45 p.m. CST. The Saturday card features the $50,000 John Alleman Memorial Stakes (RG3).
