Cowboys, dudes and fans of the American Quarter Horse filled the John Justin Arena on January 19 for the AQHA Best of the Remuda Sale. The high-seller was Strait Shot O Gun, a 2004 gray gelding consigned by Pitchfork Land & Cattle Co. The horse by Special Gun-Ms Fork Forty Strait-Mr Gray Fork went for $17,500. Ranches that have received the AQHA-Pfizer Best Remuda Award are eligible to consign horses to the sale. AQHA has recognized 21 ranches since the award began in 1992, with Singleton Ranches of Lamy, New Mexico, receiving the award in 2012. The Best of the Remuda sale is part of the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo Ranching Heritage Weekend, which also includes a ranch rodeo, an AQHA Ranching Heritage Challenge, working cow horse competitions, and an invitational gelding show and sale. The next two high-sellers at the Best of the Remuda sale were from Haythorn Land & Cattle Co., and the R.A. Brown Ranch, both at $12,500.
