The National Cutting Horse Association held a medication webinar February 22. If you missed the webinar, you can watch it nchatv.com.
The webinar covered the policy, the testing, the results, what you want to know and what you need to know regarding new NCHA medication rules.
Featured speakers were Dr. Jerry Black, who introduced and gave a summary of the new policy; Dr. Scott Stanley, who discussed the UC Davis lab and procedures; and Dr. Mike Martin, who discussed the event testing procedures including the actual drawing of the blood/urine in the medication stall, labeling, shipping and security protocol.
NCHA’s medication rules and guidelines have been adopted to protect and prolong the health and welfare of the great horses exhibited in cutting events. NCHA believes that the safety of horses is a priority issue. To help promote horse safety, NCHA will conduct random testing for medication and drugs at the 2012 NCHA-produced triple crown events.
