Western Horseman has become a sponsor of events at the Colorado State Fair, August 28 in Pueblo, Colorado, and the Northern International Livestock Exposition, October 17 in Billings, Montana.

Western Horseman, one of the nation’s oldest and most premier equine publications, recently announced its involvement as a sponsor of two upcoming Zoetis Ranching Heritage Challenge events put on by the American Quarter Horse Association. Western Horseman has become a sponsor of events at the Colorado State Fair, August 28 in Pueblo, Colorado, and the Northern International Livestock Exposition, October 17 in Billings, Montana.

The Ranching Heritage Challenge events consist of a series of ranch-horse competitions designed to highlight the usability characteristics imperative to ranch-horse work. Horses bred by an AQHA Ranching Heritage Breeder are eligible to compete in the challenges. The Ranching Heritage Breeders program was developed by AQHA to recognize the efforts of ranch-oriented breeders. The challenges provide an additional outlet to showcase ranch-horse skills in a competitive environment, allowing for growth and increased demand in this segment of the industry.

Western Horseman will have a member of its editorial staff on hand at each of the events the magazine is sponsoring. General manager Ernie King says that since the magazine was established in 1936, ranch horses and those charged with their development have been the publication’s core audience.

“Practically since its inception, Western Horseman has written about ranching and the type of stock horses cowboys need to do their jobs. Partnering with AQHA in support of the Ranching Heritage Challenge just makes sense,” he said.

Leman Wall, director of corporate and affiliate partnerships for AQHA, says the Ranching Heritage Breeders program and associated events have been an effective means of directing a spotlight toward the ranch-horse industry.

“The AQHA Ranching Heritage Breeders program creates awareness for the ranches that continue to raise outstanding ranch-type horses,” Wall said. “Through the Zoetis AQHA Ranching Heritage Challenge – a series of exclusive competitions for horses bred by Ranching Heritage Breeders – we will create another venue for these ranch-bred horses.  AQHA is excited to have Western Horseman on board as a sponsor of challenge events in Colorado and Montana.”
