Qualifying and Classes

Find out if you are eligible to compete at the Zoetis Cattle Level 1 Championships and see the classes that are offered.

Qualifying
To qualify for the 2015 Zoetis Cattle Level 1 Championships,

  • Have Level 1 eligibility in the class they wish to enter within the qualifying period of January 1 - December 31, 2014.
  • Be an AQHA member at the time of entry and at the time of the 2015 Zoetis Cattle Level 1 Championships.
  • If a competitor graduated out of Level 1 in the 2014 show season, he or she is still invited to enter the event.
  • Ownership is not required to show Level 1 – see eligibility rules in the AQHA Handbook.

Level 1 eligibility is determined on a class-by-class basis. If exhibitors would like to determine if they are Level 1-eligible in a particular class, they are encouraged to visit www.aqha.com/level1 to review the guidelines or contact AQHA Customer Service at 806-376-4811 for help in verifying eligibility.

Classes
Every class at the 2015 Zoetis Cattle Level 1 Championships, with the exception of performance halter, will feature a jackpot option. Last year, more than $11,000 was awarded at the inaugural Zoetis Cattle Level 1 Championships.

Amateur and youth classes will be offered. The following classes are on the Zoetis Cattle Level 1 Championships line-up:

  • Cutting
  • Boxing
  • Working cow horse
  • Heading
  • Heeling
  • Tie-down roping
  • Breakaway roping
  • Team penning
  • Ranch sorting
  • Reining**
  • Ranch riding (formerly ranch horse pleasure)**
  • Performance halter mares*
  • Performance halter geldings*

*To compete in a performance halter class, the horse must have an AQHA performance register of merit and the horse-and-rider team must also be entered in a performance class at the Zoetis Cattle Level 1 Championships.

**If a horse and rider compete in performance halter, ranch riding or reining at the Zoetis Cattle Level 1 Championships, they will not be able to compete in either of those classes at either the 2015 AQHA SmartPak West or Nutrena East Level 1 championships. If a horse and rider competed in reining and performance halter at either the 2014 SmartPak West or Nutrena East Level 1 championships, they are still allowed to enter the 2015 Zoetis Cattle Level 1 Championships, provided they are eligible.
