Dr. Scott Myers and Darn That Kat win their fourth jumping world championship.

Four gold trophies. That’s how many Dr. Scott Myers of Sharon Center, Ohio, has won at the Adequan Select World Championship Show in jumping with Darn That Kat. He picked up his fourth in a row September 1.

“It’s unbelievable,” Dr. Myers said. “He’s a great horse. He always works so hard for us. He’s treated our whole family just great. He’s a better horse than we could ever hope for. It’s a privilege to own him.”

“Sylvester” has a long history of success with the Myers family in AQHA over-fences classes, most recently at the Built Ford Tough AQHYA World Championship Show, where Scott’s daughter Mallory won a world championship in jumping.

“Both my kids won world championships this year, and for me to come and win on the same horse that Mallory won the jumping at the Youth World – it doesn’t get any better,” Dr. Myers said. “If you’re a dad, that’s as good as it gets.”

Sylvester has dominated at the Adequan Select World, winning the jumping championship with Dr. Myers in the irons every year since 2009.

The Mike Christian-designed jumping course at the 2012 Adequan Select World challenged the horses and riders with rollbacks and tight turns.

Four riders had clean goes in the first round, including Dr. Myers on Sylvester and his second horse, Capture The Flag, who won the working hunter world championship with Dr. Myers' daughter Taylor at the Ford Youth World.

“I went early in the draw (on Sylvester), so I had to go for it on my jump-off, and Sylvester was good,” Dr. Myers said. “His turns were really good and he was really fast. The distances were good, so it worked out.”

Darn That Kat is by Kat Man Zip-Devin’s Belle (TB) by Darn That Alarm. He was bred by Walter and Helen Sohl and Pamela Myers of Leslie, Missouri. At 15, he’s about the median in a class where the average age was 16.

“He is the perfect Quarter Horse,” Dr. Myers said. “He’s easy to get along with, laid back, low maintenance. You can leave him in the stall, you can turn him out, you can do whatever you want. He’s the same horse all the time. We really do little to take care of him because he doesn’t need too much. He’s just been a real hardy guy the whole time we’ve owned him and continues to be so.”

Dr. Myers plans to return to the Adequan Select World to defend his title.

“I think I’ll be back,” he said. “It’s a great horse show, great folks. Everybody has a special attitude. Everybody wants to give everybody else a pat on the back because they’re here competing. It’s a very friendly horse show. The Select horse show is the best.”

In addition to his world championship with Darn That Kat, Dr. Myers was fourth with Capture The Flag and was fifth in the Farnam All-Around Amateur standings at the Adequan Select World.
