2012 Select World

Weanling Stallions

Kathy Snodgrass wins one for mom.

Bright and early August 27, the weanling stallions class entered the arena for the 2012 Adequan Select World Championship Show.

Kathy Snodgrass of Rusk, Texas, walked in with a baby she almost didn’t bring, her homebred Simply Sirprizin, aka “Parker.”

“He’s a March 10 baby, probably one of the youngest in the pen, if not the youngest,” she told the Journal. “I almost didn’t bring him because of that, but I thought I’d give it a try.”

The youngster is by Dorn and Debbie Parkinson’s stallion Sirprizerized and out of Simply Sedona by Cool Scotch, a mare bred by Mary Beth Reiners of Mitchell, South Dakota. Kathy and her husband, Todd, bred and raised Parker.

“Simply Sedona gave me my first world champion two years ago here, Simply CK (by CK Kid),” Kathy said; it was in Select weanling mares.”

Parker’s disposition really clinched Kathy’s decision to haul to Amarillo.

“He’s very quiet, easy, laid back and really smart,” she said, “a really balanced colt and easy to work with.”

And it paid off for her – she walked out with the class gold trophy.

“I lost my mom in January, so this is pretty special,” she said in her Journal Winning Run interview. “My mother started me (in this) when I was 5, showing horses with my sisters. So this is very special; this is for her.”

Kathy’s not sure what Parker’s plans are; if he’s still in the Snodgrass barn, Kathy and Todd will probably point him to the AQHA World Championship Show.

“(Winning at the Adequan Select World) means a lot,” Kathy added. “Being someone who does it by myself … we birthed him, we raised him, trained him and fit him on my own, and to come here on our own and do it, it means a lot.

“(This show) is a lot of fun, it’s laid back. And it’s nice to be recognized as a true amateur for what you do.”
