2012 Select World

Trina McCarroll had just one thought as she left the Adequan Select World Championship Show arena carrying her working hunter gold trophy on September 1.
“I’m hoping he’s here.”
Trina lost her husband and best friend, Dr. David McCarroll, suddenly and tragically on May 25.
She competed at this year’s Adequan Select World in honor of Dr. McCarroll, who was her biggest fan and supporter.
She leaned on the support of her friends, trainer and seasoned horse.
“It felt pretty good,” Trina said of her go. “It’s been an emotional roller coaster. But I went over the instructions (AQHA Professional Horseman) Chuck Briggs gave me. He told me where to go and where to be.”
Her trustworthy 1993 gray gelding, We Take Cash, came through for her again. She and “Rico” won the working hunter world championship last year during their first Adequan Select World.
“I’ve got a great older horse, and that helps,” she said. “He’s really fun to ride. A lot of people are here on younger horses, and that’ll be me next year. We’re retiring him this year. He’s 19, and it’s time for him to do what he wants.”
Rico is by Cash Treat and out of Spot My Luck (TB) by Charlie’s Luck (TB).
Just before the working hunter finals class, Trina and Rico earned silver in equitation over fences.
With help from friends (and competitors) Annette Fowler, Kate Johnson and Jan Kimball, who Trina’s been riding with at Chuck’s barn for the past 10 years, Trina plans to return to the Adequan Select World next year with a young horse.
“I love (the Adequan Select World),” she said. “It’s fun. It’s a lot less stress and a lot more camaraderie.”
Dr. McCarroll, 62, a respected veterinarian within the AQHA community, was a member of the equine research committee nd, for many years, he was the official veterinarian for the AQHA World Championship Show.
