Karen Johnson is no stranger to the Adequan Select World arena. In fact, this isn’t even her first win in the 2-year-old gelding class in Amarillo.
“I’ve been showing since I was a kid, (but) I haven’t been showing Quarter Horses for a lot of years,” said the Skanee, Michigan, horsewoman. “I’ve been coming to the Select for four years.”
In 2010, Karen took her other gelding, Ima Exception, to a Select world champion title. And she’s excited to have won again.
“It’s the 10-year reunion (of the Select) … so this is great!” she said.
Karen bought her new winner, Kiddin The Joker, in the spring. Since then, “Dallas” has “won every time (we’ve) walked in the pen just about,” she said.
“I bought him … from Ramona Caldwell and he’s been with (AQHA Professional Horseman) Randy Jacobs since we bought him,” she said. “He was world champion palomino gelding and reserve world champion in July.”
“He’s just a really nice horse,” Karen said of Dallas. “And he’s a sweetheart."
The palomino gelding, bred by Stacey Sample of Godley, Texas, is by Im Kiddin and out of the Page Impressive mare Shes An Elegant Lady.
Although there was a lot on the line, Karen and Dallas didn’t really do anything out of the ordinary to prepare for the class.
“I just didn’t eat,” she said with a laugh.
Karen wanted to thank Ramona Caldwell for selling Dallas to her, Randy Jacobs for getting him ready, as well as Randy’s family for helping the duo make it to the win.
