Adequan Select World participants enjoy food, friends, art and history at the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum.
Too many to count. That's the estimate of the number of Adequan Select World Championship Show exhibitors, trainers and fans that attended the American Quarter Horse Foundation Welcome Party August 27 at the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum.
Party-goers enjoyed steak bites, calf fries, deep-fried pickles and jalapenos, grilled sausage, shrimp, crackers, cheese and bite-size desserts.
Inside the Museum, party attendees could wander through the America's Horse in Art Show & Sale, as well as the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame exhibits on the second floor. Quarter Horse Outfitters was also open so visitors could purchase AQHA-logoed merchandise.
Every year, competitors look forward to the chance to peruse the Museum’s vault of world championship winning runs.
Although it’s been seven years since Dusty Miller and Big Lil Angel won their gold trophy in tie-down roping at the 2004 Adequan Select World, Sid Miller, Dusty's younger brother, had never seen the run until the Foundation party.
“This is neat. I’d never seen the run before tonight,” said Sid, a native of Stephenville, Texas. What’s even neater is the fact that Big Lil Angel is by Big As I Am, the same sire as Big Wonder Ofa Gem, Sid’s 2011 Select tie-down roping world champion mount. And Big Lil Angel and Big Wonder Ofa Gem are both out of Lucky Captain Jess daughters, too. Looking to defend his title, Sid made the trip north with Big Wonder Ofa Gem in tow for the event's prelims on August 28.
