The John Deere AQHA Cowboy Mounted Shooting World Championships is held in conjunction with the Zoetis AQHA Versatility Ranch Horse World Championships; both events are featured during the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. Contestants to both the John Deere CMS World and the Zoetis VRH World qualify for the events January 1 - December 31 by earning the required number of AQHA points set for the class.

“John Deere has been a proud AQHA partner since 2003. We are excited to now support the newest AQHA world championship show in the sport of cowboy mounted shooting,” said Dwight Ange, John Deere corporate account manager. “The athletic ability of these riders and their horses is amazing. At John Deere, we pride ourselves on the performance of our equipment and these mounted shooters exemplify that same level of precision.”

Cowboy mounted shooting is a relatively new AQHA event. The first AQHA cowboy mounted shooting points were earned in 2011, and the event’s first AQHA world champions were crowned in March 2012. Dubbed the fastest-growing equine sport, cowboy mounted shooting consists of a horse and rider running through a pattern of poles with balloons on top. The shooter must shoot the red balloons with one gun, then switch guns before starting the rundown back to the finish line, aiming at the blue balloons. Each missed balloon means a five-second penalty. The top shooters don’t miss many of their targets.

“AQHA is excited about the future of cowboy mounted shooting. To have John Deere come on board as the title sponsor of our World Show in Houston this year is just another testament to the growing interest in this sport. John Deere is a great friend to AQHA, and we appreciate their support,” said AQHA Executive Vice President Don Treadway Jr.

The proud sponsor of the John Deere CMS World, John Deere offers AQHA members exclusive discounts of up to 28 percent on select John Deere tractors, utility vehicles, mowers, commercial worksite equipment, implements and more. Click for more information on ways to save.
