Amateur Weanling Geldings

It's fun to show a good line of homebred horses.

On November 11, Kathryn Allysn Jackson led her homebred gelding, Crown N Crown, into a big amateur weanling geldings class at the 2010 AQHA World Championship Show.

She was confident in the youngster, a full sibling to 2004 amateur reserve world champion weanling mare Mazzarini and to 2008 open world champion weanling mare Curvy Cowgirl.

“You never can expect (to win),” Allysn said. “You just know when you have a nice horse.”

But the judges agreed, awarding her four firsts and a second for the world championship.

Allysn has owned Quarter Horses since she was 12, and showed hunters in 4-H as a youth. She started showing halter horses more than a dozen years ago.

“I really like the detail, the care that you have to go into (with halter horses),” Allysn said. “I really like taking care of the horses.”

Allysn and her partner, Robert Light, fit the horses at home, and AQHA Professional Horseman Buddy and Jennifer Laney help them at shows. Buddy will show the gelding during FedEx Open Week.

“I couldn’t do it without (all of) them,” Allysn said.
