On Record, the stately chestnut gelding owned by the Kaplow family of Chappaqua, New York, secured another world championship at the 2010 AQHA World Championship Show.
The Journal spoke with AQHA Professional Horseman David Connors shortly after their win in senior working hunter.
“I knew he was going to be good,” David said. “It was just a matter of getting him relaxed.”
David said the gelding wasn’t as relaxed as normal in the senior working hunter preliminaries.
Therefore, David’s plan for the finals course included riding “really quiet and relaxed, because some of the lines were pretty short for him.”
“He was really responsive today. Consistent, (had a) nice rhythm,” David said.
“He was in the zone today,” he laughed.
On Record has quite a list of accomplishments. At the 2006 AQHA World Championship Show, On Record was the junior working hunter world champion. He repeated the win in 2007. In 2009, On Record was the AQHA world champion in both senior hunter hack and senior working hunter. The chestnut gelding has superiors in both hunter hack and working hunter. David noted that On Record also shows successfully on the United States Equestrian Federation circuit.
David said his favorite thing about On Record is that the gelding is “a great jumper, and a great minded horse.”
Tonight, David plans to celebrate with friends. “I don’t have to get up tomorrow, so we’re going to go out tonight and have some fun, finally!”
There’s nothing better to celebrate than an AQHA world championship!
David said to expect On Record to be back at the AQHA World Championship Show in 2011.
