The Journal spoke with excited owners John Peck and daughter Miranda shortly after Kid B Styling’s win in 3-year-old geldings November 20 at the 2010 AQHA World Championship Show.
Showing halter horses is a family affair for the Pecks. They’ve had quite the year showing “Kid.”
At the 2010 All American Quarter Horse Congress, John and Kid won the limited division amateur 3-year-old geldings. Miranda has also had a successful year with Kid. The pair were named reserve youth world champions in August.
What makes this gelding so special? According to John and Miranda, it’s his personality.
“He’s kind of a like a kid, just like his name,” Miranda said.
“He acts like a kid nonstop. Never a dull moment with him in the barn, that’s for sure,” John laughed.
Last week, John and Kid were reserve world champions in amateur 3-year-old geldings. Watching AQHA Professional Horseman Ross Roark lead Kid into the World Show arena was a little tense for the Pecks.
“Then it all fell into place,” John said. “Ross did a great job, and Justin Bisel, our trainer, has really worked hard with Kid. We couldn’t be happier with Ross’ performance and Justin’s hard work over the years.”
The Peck family plans to continue showing Kid. John and Miranda made sure to say hello to mom Leeann and son Johnny, who are cheering from their home in Ashland, Ohio.
“They were watching on the computer but couldn’t be here,” John explained. “Johnny had a (youth) world championship (in performance halter geldings with A Classical Touch) out here in August with his horse. We’ve had a lot of fun. A good year!”
