Entrepreneurs Touch and Shelby J. Tibbitts
Shelby Tibbitts was armed with two things the morning of November 13 at the 2013 AQHA World Championship Show: an incredible stallion and a box of blueberry muffins. Because, to win an amateur 3-year-old colts world championship, she knew you can’t have one without the other.
The blueberry-muffin-demanding 2012 sorrel stallion Entrepreneurs Touch bested the four-head finals class – even the defending world champion Ecredible – for a first world championship for him and Shelby.
“I’ve been showing for about 10 years and this is my first world champion!” Shelby beamed after her win as she talked to The American Quarter Horse Journal. “I’m so very excited! “We own his daddy, Self Employed. He passed away this year. Being his foal, this win means a whole lot to us. It’s very close to our heart. It’s our first year to win!”
Shelby, a senior at Tarleton State University, knew “Touchy” would be the horse to take her to her ultimate goal – winning a gold trophy.
“We bought him in February,” she explained. “It’s been a lot of fun. I’ve never shown a stallion before. He’s a little teddy bear. I love him to death. He’s so much fun to show.
“This year, I knew he would do good,” she continued. “I knew I’d do really well. I always pray for a gold, but I never know. This year I was very happy to get it.”
Touchy will begin his breeding program this year, and Shelby will continue showing him.
“He thanks me because I feed him blueberry muffins every time we go show, so we connect that way!” she laughed. “He has to have them. He’s a little sweetheart in the arena. He’ll do anything for you.”
We’ll see Touchy again next week in the open as well as the Get of Sire class.
