Intersection and AQHA Professional Horseman Ross Roark
Dan Fox of Chino Hills, California, proudly accepted yet another world championship trophy at the 2013 AQHA world show, and this time with back-to-back titles in the performance halter stallions class.
On November 18, Intersection, a 2006 stallion by Mr Elusive and out of A Honey Ofa Page by Page Impressive, defended his 2012 title with AQHA Professional Horseman Ross Roark of Monahans, Texas. Intersection earned the title in the amateur division last week with Dan leading him.
“I like showing him in halter,” Dan said. “He’s quite a horse.”
As well as having the qualities to be successful as a halter horse, Intersection is quite the performance horse as well. He is shown in ranch pleasure, barrels, poles, heading and heeling.
Sound like the makings of a Farnam Superhorse?
“He’s really a versatile horse; he’s really athletic,” Dan said. “We’ll see if we can make a Superhorse out of him. He’s good at five different events, so we’ll see.”
Now that he has collected so many accolades in halter and performance halter Dan thinks that it is time to hone his talents in his other events, ranch pleasure in particular.
“Jack Brizendine in the trainer for halter, but Marty (Simper) is riding him,” Dan explained. “He likes him, gets along really well with him – it’s a really good match. We’ve got Marty showing him ranch pleasure.”
Dan beamed about the success that the stallion has had. He is the first halter horse that he has purchased.
He has been riding since he was a boy, enjoying trail riding and hunting off of his dad’s horses. He turned to showing horses later.
“My daughter has been showing for 10 years,” Dan said. “I’ve been showing for five years, but I’ve always had horses.”
In addition to Intersection, Dan has four horses competing at this year’s show. Three of them have already done exceptionally well. Dan’s daughter Katie won amateur performance mares with A Classic Edition. And they have another competing in open heeling.
As an Oklahoma-native, Dan said that coming to the World Show to compete and watch his horses compete is like “coming home.”
