For two weeks in November, Oklahoma City is the place to be for world-class equine performances, top-notch western shopping and memory-making experiences.
Competition kicks off at the 2013 Bank of America Amateur and American Quarter Horse Association Open World Championship Show on Friday, November 8, at State Fair Park. There is more fun to be had than just in the show pen – you won’t want to miss the AQHA World Show special events and demonstrations.
Nutrena Ride the Rail/Ride the Pattern
Find out how the AQHA Professional Horsemen would Ride the Rail/Ride the Pattern at the World Show. Demonstrations in hunt seat equitation, horsemanship, western pleasure, hunter under saddle and showmanship will be offered. A full list of the free clinics will be available at the show.
Cowboy Mounted Shooting Demonstration and Professional Horsemen Shoot-Out
Saturday, November 9, at 7 p.m.
Step back in time to the Wild West as AQHA Professional Horsemen shoot it out in a competition where they test their skills with cowboy mounted shooting. Members of the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association will also demonstrate their skills with revolvers and rifles in this fast-action timed event. A course is set up with balloons as targets, and cowboys and cowgirls fire blank ammunition from aboard their trusty American Quarter Horses. It will be a lively performance to kick off the World Show events. The exhibition will take place during the finals on November 9. Veterans Day Tribute
Monday, November 11
To celebrate Veterans Day, AQHA will honor veterans during an all-day patriotic tribute on Monday, November 11. Show your support for our veterans and troops by wearing red and picking up your flag button at the Quarter Horse Outfitters booth in the trade show. Special videos and patriotic music will play throughout the day in honor of those who have served our country. All military personnel and their spouses will receive free general admission to the show with a military ID on November 11.
Freestyle Horsemanship Exhibition
Saturday, November 16
AQHA Professional Horsemen will compete in a freestyle horsemanship exhibition during the finals on Saturday, November 16. Professional Horsemen will perform to music and in costume for a maximum of three to four minutes executing specified maneuvers in any sequence.
Thursday, November 14 and Friday, November 15
The 2013 AQHA World Show will host the first-ever Para-Reining competition in the United States. This event marks the maiden Para-Reining within the U.S. Para-Equestrian system and a launching of efforts to bring the discipline online as a fully recognized sport in 2014.
Para-Reining will include a clinic and educational seminar on Thursday, November 14, and a first-ever Para-Reining demonstration class on Friday, November 15.
Member Appreciation Day

AQHA salutes horsemen and -women who have fought a battle with cancer. Join AQHA as we support those who have been affected by cancer by wearing pink all day. Take Aim at Cancer during the Tuesday night finals performance by purchasing your Rein in Cancer frisbees at Shorty’s Caboy Hattery booth in the Trade Show, the AQHA booth or in the show office. Each frisbee is $5, and proceeds benefit cancer research. You will get a chance to throw your frisbee at a target in the arena at the kick-off of the evening’s trail finals. One lucky person whose frisbee lands in the target or closest to the target, will win the grand prize. Stop by the AQHA booth or Shorty’s Caboy Hattery in the tradeshow for more details.
Team Wrangler Night

AQHA Collegiate Horsemanship Challenge
Thursday, November 21, at 7 p.m.
For several years now, AQHA has been a proud sponsor and supporter of the National Collegiate Equestrian Association and the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association. AQHA is excited to host the second annual AQHA Collegiate Horsemanship Challenge which will feature top riders from both NCEA and IHSA. The top eight student-athletes from each association will compete in to claim the honor of champion of the 2013 AQHA Collegiate Horsemanship Challenge.
Preliminary competition with all 16 riders will start November 20 in the Performance Arena where the field will be narrowed down to the top four riders for the evening finals performance on Thursday, November 21 at 7 p.m. Riders will all complete the same horsemanship pattern on borrowed horses from various AQHA amateur exhibitors and Professional Horsemen. Each rider will only get four minutes to practice maneuvers on the horse before they are sent in the arena for their turn at the pattern.
Pull out your favorite school’s colors and come ready to cheer. This is predicted to be an intense competition between the best collegiate riders in the country.
