Competition kicks off at the 2014 American Quarter Horse Association World Championship Show on Friday, November 7, at State Fair Park. There is more fun to be had than just in the show pen – you won’t want to miss the AQHA World Show special events and demonstrations.
Cowboy Mounted Shooting Demonstration and AQHA Professional Horsemen Shoot-Out
Saturday, November 8
Step back in time to the wild west as AQHA Professional Horsemen shoot it out in a competition where they test their cowboy mounted shooting skills. Members of the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association will demonstrate their marks¬manship with revolvers and rifles in this fast-action timed event. In cowboy mounted shooting, a course is set up with balloons as targets, and cowboys and cowgirls fire blank ammunition from aboard their trusty American Quarter Horses. It will be a lively performance to kick off the AQHA World Show events. The exhibition will take place during the finals on November 8. Veterans’ Day Tribute
Tuesday, November 11
To celebrate Veterans Day, AQHA will honor veterans during an all-day patriotic tribute on Tuesday, November 11. Show your support for our veterans and troops by wearing red. Special videos and patriotic music will play throughout the day in honor of those who have served our country. All military personnel and their spouses will receive free general admission to the show with a military ID on November 11.
Bobby Kerr Mustang Act
Friday, November 14 and Saturday, November 15
Watch Bobby and his team of American mustangs during the finals performances on November 14 and 15. Bobby is a longtime horse trainer and Western art craftsman who discovered the wonder of wild mustangs when a friend bought him a ticket to the Extreme Mustang Makeover in Fort Worth, Texas. Bobby soon found himself at the center of the mus¬tang movement and now performs across the country. His performance has inspired audiences around the nation with the incredible display of courage and trust. This will be an exciting performance you won’t want to miss!
Para-Reining Demonstration Class
Saturday, November 15
For the second year in a row, the AQHA World Show will host a para-reining competition. This para-reining event includes a clinic and educational seminar on November 14 and demonstration class on November 15. Last year, the AQHA World Show hosted the first-ever para-reining com¬petition in the United States. Watch as these talented equestrians with disabilities show off their skills during the finals on November 15.
AQHA Professional Horsemen Freestyle Exhibition
Saturday, November 15
AQHA Professional Horsemen will compete in a freestyle exhibition during the finals on November 15. Professional Horsemen will perform to music and in costume for a maxi¬mum of three to four minutes, executing specified maneuvers in any sequence.
Tuesday, November 18
AQHA salutes horsemen and -women who have fought a battle with cancer. Join AQHA by wearing pink all day as we support those who have been affected by cancer. Take Aim at Cancer during the Tuesday evening finals performance by purchasing your Rein in Cancer Frisbees at the Shorty’s Caboy Hattery booth in the Trade Show, the AQHA booth or show office. Each Frisbee is $5, and proceeds benefit cancer research. You will get a chance to throw your Frisbee at a target in the arena at the kick-off of the evening’s trail finals. The lucky person whose Frisbee lands in the target, or closest to the target, will win the grand prize. Stop by the AQHA booth in the Trade Show for more details.
2014 Team Wrangler Awards
Tuesday, November 18
Team Wrangler, sponsored by AQHA corporate partner Wrangler, is made up of teams of the top AQHA Professional Horsemen in the world who have competed throughout the year to be named the top team in the Team Wrangler competition. Wrangler will present the winning team, leading exhibitor award and high-point extreme-team member award during the 2014 Team Wrangler awards presentation on November 18. Wrangler will also make a $20,000 contribution to the American Quarter Horse Foundation. Each member on the winning team will receive a $1,000 cash award. Join us as we honor the men and women of Team Wrangler.
AQHA Collegiate Horsemanship Challenge
Wednesday, November 19 and Thursday, November 20
For several years, AQHA has been a proud sponsor and supporter of the National Collegiate Equestrian and Intercollegiate Horse Show associations. AQHA is excited to host the third annual AQHA Collegiate Horsemanship Challenge, which will feature top NCEA and IHSA riders.
The top eight student-athletes from each association will compete to claim the honor of champion of the 2014 AQHA Collegiate Horsemanship Challenge.
Preliminary competition with all 16 riders starts November 19 in the Performance Arena, where the field will be narrowed to the top-four riders for the finals on November 20. Riders will complete a horsemanship pattern on horses borrowed from various AQHA amateur exhibitors and AQHA Professional Horsemen. Each collegiate rider will only get four minutes to practice maneuvers on the horse before they are sent in the arena for their turn at the pattern.
Pull out your favorite school’s colors and come ready to cheer. This is predicted to be an intense competition between the best collegiate riders in the country.
2015 Team Wrangler Presentation
Wednesday, November 19
Top AQHA Professional Horsemen are chosen each year to represent the industry at various events and functions. These professionals have proven themselves by being advocates for the American Quarter Horse and ambassadors for the industry. Wrangler and AQHA are proud to unveil the newest members of Team Wrangler. Come be part of the fun and have a chance to catch a Wrangler T-shirt from your favorite Professional Horseman.
Robin Brooks Sullivan and Jerry Putnam, members of the Oklahoma City band Prime Time, will perform in the Built Ford Tough VIP Club November 8, 14 and 21. Enjoy live music, beverages and light snacks while watching the top American Quarter Horse athletes in the world compete.
