After showing twice during the morning performance in the equitation over fences and working hunter finals, Kristin and “Winston” returned to the Jim Norick Arena to win the hunter hack championship for a second year in a row. This year marked Kristin’s seventh year to compete at the Built Ford Tough Youth World Championship Show.
“It was amazing,” Kristin said. “I showed him in the first two classes today and he was just ‘alright.’ And then I got in there and I could just feel that he felt so much better. He was just enjoying the ride.”
Kristin said winning the hunter hack championship at the 2012 Ford Youth World added a bit of challenge to the class.
“There was a little bit of pressure (to do well again), but I just went in there and tried not to get cut off,” Kristin said. “It gets kind of busy in there around the rail working. I got the jumps. We hit them pretty perfect and he was just really good.”
“It was actually a really tough class,” Kristin added. “Everybody hit their jumps (well), so it was pretty much up to the rail work and up to the judges. I got lucky.”
Although the first two classes tired her out a bit, Kristin thinks it was actually a good thing she was able to compete in the three different finals.
“(Those classes) got the nerves out, which is good,” Kristin said.
