Every two years, American Quarter Horse youth riders have the chance to vie for international fame at the American Quarter Horse Youth World Cup. The 2012 Youth World Cup will see teams from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, the Dominican Republic, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Luxemborg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland and the United States.

“We will see many returning countries from the 2010 Youth World Cup at the event in Kreuth,” said David Avery, AQHA director of international affairs.

“This is such a great event for youth competitors to showcase their riding skills on unfamiliar horses, learn from fantastic seminars and discipline clinics, plus connect with fellow American Quarter Horse enthusiasts from around the world,” Avery added. “This is certainly a competition that is near and dear to my heart, and I’ve enjoyed seeing its growth over the years.”

While at the Youth World Cup, five youth plus one coach and manager from each country will take part in educational seminars, discipline clinics, leadership training and, finally, competition. Five additional youth from each country are invited by each international affiliate to attend the education and leadership portion of the week’s events and to cheer on their teammates.

Competing team members at the Youth World Cup will battle it out in cutting, reining, horsemanship, western pleasure, trail, western riding, hunt seat equitation, hunter under saddle and showmanship. To level the playing field, competing Youth World Cup team members do not show their own horses.
