COMPETITIONS The thrill and excitement of competition at AQHA-approved shows can be enjoyed with family and friends. Through hard work and practice, showing can give participants a feeling of satisfaction, as well as the opportunity to win trophies and awards. AQHA's Handbook of Official Rules and Regulations is published to assure members are given a fair and equal chance of achieving their goals. AQHA honors deserving members with prestigious awards in its youth, amateur and open divisions at over 2,400 AQHA-approved shows. Outstanding performers in American Quarter Horse racing also are recognized with year-end awards. The American Quarter Horse Youth Association and AQHA World Championship Shows provide members who are show enthusiasts the opportunity to win the coveted title of World Champion. Debuting in 1993, the Bank of America America Quarter Horse Racing Challenge is the sport's richest event, offering $4 million in purses and bonus awards. The Bank of America Challenge is a series of 69 races run in 10 regions at racetracks across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Winners of each regional event earn a starting position in the final event, the MBNA America Challenge Championships where they vie for the title of "America's Fastest Athlete." At the heart of this story is the American Quarter Horse, a breed with intelligence, kindness, agility and athletic abilities to perform these different disciplines, as well as such activities as providing horsepower for ranchers, mounting riders in urban, suburban, or rural or extreme back country settings ... riders who call the American Quarter Horse their own.
